Scatec ASA (OSL:SCATC) is seeking up to USD 80 million (EUR 68.5m) in debt from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to finance the first phase of its 1-GW Dandara Solar Energy Project in Egypt. Through the Dandara Solar Power SAE special purpose vehicle, the Norwegian firm has applied for a senior loan to back the construction and development of a 500-MW solar farm with 100 MWh of battery storage. According to the lender’s disclosure on Tuesday, approval is expected to be granted on May 28. The loan application follows the signing of letters of intent related to funding the Dandara project with the EBRD, the African Development Bank (AfD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). To be located in Qena Governorate, east of the Nagaa Hammadi Industrial Zone, the Dandara complex will be operated under a 25-year, US dollar-denominated corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with Egypt Aluminium (EgyptAlum). The output is anticipated to meet a substantial share of the aluminium maker’s electricity demand and help it cut its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30%. Phase 1 of the project is estimated to cost USD 315 million. As previously reported, it is due to enter construction in the second quarter of 2026. (USD 1.0 = EUR 0.856)
